Burnmouth was designed by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson and built by contractor John E. Clark over the winter of 1885-86. The original owner was W.B. Walley. During the 1960s the house was owned by the McCormick family. Burnmouth was torn down in 1979. The cottage name is sometimes misspelled as Bournemouth.
